The Reel Deal’s Royle family

We’ve all got them – big fish stories

17-year-old Kirra Royle’s father Adam is president of Hinchinbrook Sportfishing Club

They are a Royle fishing family

Today Kirra shares one of her many tales

Who: Kirra Royle

How old: 17

Where from: Forrest Beach/Ingham

What school: Ingham State High

Where do you work: Coles

What type of fish: Grey mackerel

Where caught: Out at the islands in front of Forrest Beach

Bait: Homemade metal slugs

Rod: Samaki King

Reel: Shimano Stradic CI4 3,000

What’s special about this catch: Even though the weather was rough and tough that day I was still able to catch a brilliant grey mackerel. It taught me that with time and persistence comes bigger prizes and success

What did you do with her: It was dinner for the family that night. They’re best when eaten fresh

River or reef: I love all kinds of fishing – but I’ll say reef

Favourite fish: I love to the thrill of chasing and catching sporty fish. Mackerel, tuna and queenfish are my favourite

What’s the best thing about Hinchinbrook: The range of fishing locations and species of fish you can catch

Thank you for sharing your big fish story Kirra – what a whopper!
