Royle’s flush after near record catch

Adam Royle with his prized catch

Who: Adam Royle

What: President of Hinchinbrook Sport Fishing Club

Age: 45

From: Ipswich in south east Qld – but been in Ingham since the 90s

Job: Agronomist at Herbert River Productivity Services

Fish: Finger mark (golden snapper)

Size: 80cm – 2cm short of Qld record

Rod: 1.8m 6-8kg Veritas

Reel: 3,000 Shimano Stradic CI4 with a 10kg braid

Bait: Lure

Where: Shallow reef in front of Forrest Beach

Battle: 5 minutes – she put up a good fight

What did you do with her: She’s one of the best eating fish so we took her home. We baked the fillets and crumbed the rest. My brother was up and there was a few of us – she gave us three or four meals

What’s this about a record: I just missed out on the Qld length record for capture on a lure. I’ve got plenty of memorable catches, including my first 1m barra

What’s the best thing about Hinchinbrook: It offers so much variety. Where else can you catch a barra one day and a mackerel the next? Then red emperor and coral trout – and that’s before you hit the fresh water for a sooty or a jungle perch! It offers something all year round.

Thanks Adam. What a whopper!
