Comeback kids sink Saints 4-2

The awesome foursome - goalscorers Nganji Collins, Ngiriyonsenga Kalisa, Aung Tin and Luca Adornetto

AFTER twice going behind Ingham youth stormed back to beat Saints 4-2 at Brolga Park in Townsville.

Goals from Nganji Collins, Ngiriyonsenga Kalisa, Aung Tin and Luca Adornetto sealed a fantastic win for our under-18s side.

Coach James Formosa said: ‘We never lost belief – even after going 2-1 down.

‘I said after last week’s game we had quality and we’ve showed that tonight.

‘I’m so proud of the boys. They were outstanding’.

Formosa praised his team’s ability after they lost their opening fixture 3-1 to MA Olympic Blue last week – and they paid back his faith with a blistering performance in their second game of the season.

Ingham went a goal down in the first half before Collins – who’s been given the nickname ‘Phil’ by his team mates – cracked in an equaliser from the edge of the area.

Goalkeeper Logan Aird made a string of saves to keep the score 1-1 at half-time but Saints again took the lead on the hour, to make it 2-1.

Their celebrations were short lived as in-form winger Kalisa cut inside from the left and fired in an unstoppable drive with his right foot, to level the scores at 2-2.

It was his second goal in as many games.

And with five minutes to go, Tin poked Ingham ahead for the first-time in the match, being the first to react after a goal-mouth scramble.

The travelling Ingham supporters – who had roared on their boys with frosty breath on a freezing night for the North Queensland tropics – went ballistic.

Then with a minute of normal time left to play, Adornetto cut inside from the right wing and drilled home to make it 4-2.

Wingers Adornetto and Kalisa were pests to the Saints’ defence for the match’s entirety. Both boys have tricky feet and darting pace.

The back-four – made up of Aiden Sanderson, Ethan Coco, captain Dale Cantoni and Abdul Hassen – were outstanding throughout.

Local supporters have an opportunity to see Ingham youth when they face MA Olympic Maroon at Angie Pane Fields on Friday.

If they play half as well as they did in this 4-2 win – it will be well worth a watch.
