Flood Watch – No Cause for Immediate Alarm

Bureau of Meteorology predicts heavy rain over the coming days with the possibility of flooding

HINCHINBROOK Shire residents have been advised to remain alert not alarmed, after the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a Flood Watch for the Gulf Country, Cape York Peninsula and coastal catchments between Cooktown and Proserpine earlier today.

Heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days, initially over the Cape York Peninsula and lower Gulf catchments, before extending eastwards to affect the North Tropical Coast on Wednesday and Thursday.

Very heavy rainfall is likely locally, with potentially intense rainfall in isolated locations. Rainfall is expected to ease from Friday as the low moves offshore.

Residents are urged to continue monitoring the BOM website www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for further weather warnings and updates and listen to advice from local emergency services.

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will continue to monitor the situation and will issue relevant notices to residents as required.
