Cup of tea with a Queen – Jessie Gofton

Maraka Queen Entrant, Jessie Gofton shares with us a bit about herself.

MEET our Maraka Queen entrants, learn about their interests, dreams, who inspires them, even their favourite food and what it would mean to be crowned 2021 Maraka Queen.

Introducing our fourth Maraka Queen entrant, Jessie Gofton. Jessie is 23 years old and is an accountant at Cosca. She plans to continue her studies next year to become a CPA (Certified Practising Accountant).  You can also occasionally find her pouring beers at the Hinchinbrook Hotel, or on a train at Wilmar.

Jessie is sponsored by Cosca, Oswin Insurance, Galipo’s Midtown Meats, Hotel Hinchinbrook and Gofton Enterprise.

We had the chance to catch up with Jessie and get to know a little more about her over a cup of tea. So, join us. Make yourself a cuppa, sit back and enjoy getting to know Jessie. 

Favourite colour: Purple.

Favourite food: French toast, but I’m not fussy when it comes to food.

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy playing rugby league and touch football, going to the gym, reading, cooking and anything outdoors or horse related mainly.

Favourite TV show/series: McLeod’s Daughters and Yellowstone.

Where did you go to school? Ingham State Primary School and Ingham State High School.

What made you decide to be a Maraka Queen entrant? To support and be part of a local community event.

What does it mean to you to be a Maraka Queen entrant? It really means to me that we, as entrants, are proud to be a part of the community and want to support community involvement.

What would it mean to be crowned 2021 Maraka Queen? I am humbled to be an entrant beside six of the most beautiful ladies. I believe that whoever gets crowned will feel very honoured and will be very deserving.

What have you enjoyed most about the Maraka Queen experience so far? Sharing the experience with the other entrants and being given opportunities to take a few steps out of my comfort zone.

What do you love most about living in Hinchinbrook? I love the freedom, the weather and the natural attractions including the numerous fresh water swimming spots. I also love the community spirit and having friends and family so close.

What is your fondest memory growing up in the district? Adventuring and exploring the countless natural attractions in our district.

What’s your favourite place to visit in the Hinchinbrook Shire? The Islands, specifically Hinchinbrook Island’s fresh water swimming spots.

What’s your favourite place to visit in the world? The Snowy Mountains.

What would be your ultimate holiday? A cross-country Australia road-trip.

Describe yourself in one word: Dynamic.

What’s something interesting or quirky that people would not know about you? I am named after my mother’s boarding school Headmistress.

What is your greatest achievement to date? Completing my degree.

Who inspires you? Granny Gofton.

What motivates you? My dreams and goals for the future motivate me daily.

Do you have a cause close to heart?  Audrey’s Angels of Hope, an incredible local charity. I also have a soft spot for both Riding for the Disabled and The Royal Flying Doctors Service. I will be donating any leftover sponsorship money to Audrey’s Angels of Hope.

What is your favourite life motto/ quote? “End each day with a grateful heart”.

What are your dreams/plans for the future? To complete my CPA studies and live rural with my future family.

We wish Jessie the best throughout her Maraka Queen journey and with all her future endeavours.

Jessie spent her time living in the Snowy Mountains as a horse-back tour guide.
Her favourite place in Hinchinbrook: Jessie loves exploring the local Hinchinbrook Islands especially snorkelling with dog, ‘Coco’.
Jessie, with fellow Ingham Sugar City Rodeo committee members and participants of the recent 2021 Rodeo Charity Bull Ride. She is currently serving as secretary and treasurer of the committee.
Jessie is part of the Herbert River Crushers rugby league team, where she played as a winger.
