Cup of tea with a Queen – Claudine D’Emden

Maraka Queen Entrant, Claudine D'Emden shares with us a bit about herself.

MEET our Maraka Queen entrants, learn about their interests, future plans and dreams, even their favourite food and what it would mean to be crowned 2021 Maraka Queen.

Introducing our first Maraka Queen entrant, Claudine D’Emden. Claudine is 23 years old and a registered nurse at the Ingham Hospital.

Claudine is sponsored by the Apex Club of Herbert River, Make Up by Breanna Camp, I Love Boutique, Precision Diesel Tuning, Townsville Orthodontic Specialists and BP Halifax.

We had the chance to catch up with Claudine and get to know a little bit more about her over a cup of tea. So, join us. Make yourself a cuppa, sit back and enjoy getting to know Claudine.

Favourite food: Pizza

Hobbies/Interests: Gardening, playing footy, shopping, travelling and swimming.

Favourite TV show/series: Harry Potter.

Where did you go to school? Ingham State High School – Class of 2014.

Why did you decide to be a Maraka Queen entrant? I enjoy getting dressed up and trying new things. I thought it would be fun!

What does it mean to you to be a Maraka Queen entrant? I’m proud to represent my community in some way. It’s a great opportunity and I recommend it to anyone thinking about doing it in the coming years.

What would it mean to be crowned 2021 Maraka Queen? It’s not all about winning but I would be very appreciative and proud to be crowned Maraka Queen.

What have you enjoyed most about the Maraka Queen experience so far? Getting to know some of the other girls a little better.

What do you love most about living in Hinchinbrook? It’s home to me. I love the sense of community that you don’t see in bigger cities.

What is your fondest memories growing up in the district? Hanging out with all my siblings and the other Cordelia kids during the floods.

What is your favourite place to visit in Hinchinbrook? Broadwater and Lucinda.

What is your favourite place to visit in the world? The beach.

What would be the ultimate holiday in your eyes? Getting to explore somewhere new. I have a few places I want to tick off my bucket list.

Describe yourself in one word: Bubbly.

What is something interesting/ quirky that people would not know about you? I’m one of nine children.

What is your greatest achievement to date? Completing my Nursing Degree. I absolutely love my job as a nurse.

Who inspires you? My parents.

What motivates you? At work, my biggest motivation is being able to put a smile on the faces of my patients. In my everyday life, I strive to be the best friend/daughter/Aunty/sister I can be.

Do you have a cause close to your heart? Ingham Palliative Care Committee. They do an amazing job at ensuring the hospital is well equipped to help keep patients and their families comfortable during a tough time.

What is your favourite life motto/quote? I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than the things I haven’t done.

What are your dreams/ plans for the future? Travel to every continent and become a Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) Nurse.
