Christmas in Hinchinbrook: Carols, beach festivities, markets, parties and late night shopping

IT’S December and with Christmas just around the corner, the Hinchinbrook community is preparing to celebrate the festive season with a list of local events taking place around the district all throughout the month of December.

The fun kicks off tonight with the lighting of Hinchinbrook’s Christmas Tree at Rotary Park from 7:00 pm.

Be sure to check out the events guide below and get along and support our community during this season. There’s something for the whole family to be part of and plenty of opportunity to share in the Christmas spirit.  

Light up the tree

When: Wednesday 1 December 2021

Where: Rotary Park, Herbert Street, Ingham.

Time: 7:00 pm

Watch the Mayor light up Hinchinbrook’s Christmas Tree. Pack a delicious picnic dinner and bring the family down to Rotary Park to watch the new Christmas Tree light up.

Kids can have a play at the new lit up Rotary Park playground and family and friends can enjoy a midweek catch up. If you can’t make it, the lighting of the tree will be streamed live on the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Facebook Page.

Forrest Beach Progress Association Carols by Candlelight

When: Friday 3 December 2021

Where: Progress Park, Forrest Beach.

Time: 5:15 pm snacks and drinks for sale and 6:00 pm carols program.

Head on down to Forrest Beach to kick off the festive season by the sea. Bring a blanket, picnic and your best carolling voices for this very special night. The Forrest Beach Primary School P & C Association will have a finger food super and drinks available for purchase before the carols. Glow stick necklaces will be for sale at $2 as well as a visit from Santa, lucky door prize tickets and fireworks display at 7:45 pm to finish off the night.

Christmas at Andy’s Roadhouse

When: Saturday 4 December 2021

Where: Andy’s Roadhouse, Townsville Road, Ingham.

Time: 3:00 pm

Ingham Bent Rods Car Club static display, bar, raffles, food stalls, local entertainment and a visit from Santa from 6:30 pm. There is a $5 entry fee with all proceeds going to Ingham Palliative Care.

Late Night Shopping in Hinchinbrook

When: Thursday 9 December 2021

Where: Lannercost Street, Ingham.

Time: Until 9:00 pm

Buy local this festive season. Stroll the main street of Ingham and support local business this Christmas. With extended trading hours until 9:00 pm, many of the town’s leading stores will be open and ready to help you find the perfect gift.

Lucinda Hotel Christmas Party and Monster Raffle

When: Friday 10 December 2021

Where: Lucinda Hotel, Corner Keast Street and Dungeness Road, Lucinda.

Time: 7:30 pm raffles drawn.

Get in early and book your table. Live music by Greg Grevsmuhl with complimentary nibbles and a monster Christmas raffle. Prizes include, Bundy Rum fridge full of Bundy Rum, ten cartons of Great Northern Super Crisp, monster meat tray, ten $25 meat trays and two $50 meat trays.

Taylors Beach Christmas Party

When: Saturday 11 December 2021

Where: Progress Park, Taylor’s Beach.

Time:  5:00 pm

It’s that time of year again. Bring your Christmas cheer and celebrate the community of Taylor’s Beach. Everyone is welcome. Free sausage sizzle from 6:00 pm and bar opens from 5:00 pm. Bring snacks to share with your group.  Lots of excitement on the night including a raffle wheel with hams and wine to be won and a visit from Santa at 6:30 pm. Parents please remember to drop your child’s gift to the shop to the value of $10 by 10 December for Santa to collect.

Hinchinbrook’s Carols by Candlelight

When: Saturday 11 December 2021

Where: Rotary Park, Herbert Street, Ingham.

Time: Starts at 5:30 pm

What better way to enjoy the company of loved ones, friends and family then at Carols by Candlelight in the park. Council have been busy pulling together some really special performers. Be sure to wear your best Christmas outfit for your photo with Santa.

Kids activities from 5:30 pm include petting zoo, kids craft, kids games, face painting and Maraka Queens will be reading Christmas books.

Music program from 6:30 pm include special guest singers, local community dance performers, local choirs and local singers.

Halifax Hotel Annual Raffles

When: Sunday 12 December 2021

Where: Halifax Hotel, 26 Macrossan Street, Halifax.

Time: 11:00 am

Six raffles to be drawn from 11:30 am. Prizes include Christmas ham, gift vouchers and Lions Christmas cakes. All proceeds go to the Ingham Palliative Care Committee.

Lucinda Progress Association Carols

When: Wednesday 15 December 2021

Where: Borello Park, Lucinda.

Time: 6:30 pm

Lucinda Progress Association invites the community to share in the spirit of Christmas by the seaside at Lucinda. Plenty of entertainment on offer for everyone including carols, raffles and gifts from Santa thanks to the Blue Light Association as well as food and drinks for available for purchase.

Mayor’s Christmas Appeal

When: Wednesday 17 November until Wednesday 15 December 2021.

Where: Gifts, non-perishable food items or monetary donations to the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Office.

Time: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Dig deep and donate to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal to help those in our community who are less fortunate and to ensure that their Christmas is one that is filled with joy and not despair.

Ingham Raintree Community Markets

When: Sunday 5 and 19 December 2021

Where: Rotary Park, Ingham.

Time: 7:00 am

Looking for Christmas gift ideas? Well look no further…the Raintree Markets have your Christmas shopping covered. With only two markets left this year, come along and enjoy browsing the wonderful selection of handmade items, plants galore, old treasures, handcrafted woodwork, Christmas cakes and goodies. There’s something for everyone.
