Rape charge for 19-year-old after alleged river assault on pensioner

A 19-YEAR-OLD has been charged with rape after an alleged assault on a pensioner walking along the Ross River in Townsville yesterday morning.

The suspect was taken into custody at midday and later charged with two counts of rape and one count of assault with intent to commit rape following an alleged assault on a 66-year-old woman in Cranbrook at 6 am.

The woman was walking on a pathway next to the river near Victor Street.

The teenager is being charged with an additional count of assault occasioning bodily harm after a 51-year-old woman was allegedly punched a number of times at a Rosslea residence around 3 am yesterday.

The accused man is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court this morning.
