125 arrested in two-week crime crackdown

POLICE have arrested 125 people on almost 500 charges as part of an operation targeting repeat offenders across Townsville.

Officers arrested 102 adults and 23 juveniles during the two-week operation.

A combined total of 478 charges were laid for a range of offences including car theft, burglary, drugs and weapons offences and willful damage.

Extra officers from the state flying squad joined local police as part of the operation, boosting police presence across the district for the two-week period.

On the final weekend, officers arrested a 35-year-old man at Rasmussen where they allegedly located dangerous drugs and a taser.

He has since been charged with 11 offences, including drug trafficking and weapons-related offences and has been remanded in custody to reappear in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 6.

Crime prevention officers conducted information stalls at five public events and delivered crime prevention information to 2,500 residential properties through letterbox drops in key areas as part of the operation.
