Council Connections – 20 April 2022

ANZAC Day Commemorations, Run Army 2022 and Have your Say – Coastal Reserves

ANZAC Day is a day when we remember the anniversary of the landings of Australian and New Zealand soldiers at Gallipoli.

It is also the National Day of Remembrance that commemorates those brave men and women who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations, and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.

It is important for us all not to forget such sacrifices as these are the reason we have freedom in our lives today.  The selfless efforts by so many on our behalf can never be repaid in any manner or form.  We thank you for the freedom and life we now have because of you.

I believe this community should be proud of the manner in which we respect ANZAC Day and I encourage you all to participate in the parades and commemorations taking place in our region tomorrow. It is the least we can do to express our gratitude.

Council wishes to advise that numerous road closures will be in place on Monday 25 April 2022 due to the ANZAC Day commemorations:

Congratulations Michael Pisano and Jeff Cantamessa

On behalf of Council and our wider community, I would like to acknowledge and thank Canegrowers Herbert Chairman Michael Pisano (1989-2022) and Canegrowers Director Jeff Cantamessa (1998- 2022) for near on 60 years of continuous service representing our district as Canegrower representatives.

Michael and Jeff retired last Friday 15 April 2022.

Both men have been major contributors to industry policy and governance and I thank them for their diligence and perseverance in continuously pushing the grower cause in more often than not, quite challenging and intense circumstances.

We wish you all the best in retirement. Congratulations on a job well done.
