Herbert river mills – week 1 update

The Herbert region’s 2021 crushing season commenced on Friday 18 June at Victoria Mill. Macknade Mill commenced crushing operations on Monday 21 June.

Throughput was restricted due to wet field conditions limiting cane supply. A total of 13,835 tonnes of cane were crushed for the week.

With school holidays commencing at the end of this week, parents and carers are urged to remind children of the dangers associated with cane trains. Children should keep well away from the cane rail network and never play on or around cane bins.

Motorists and cyclists should approach cane rail crossings with caution, and always give way to cane trains.
Motorists should be particularly vigilant at rail crossings in rural areas, where visibility may be limited by standing cane.
